THE MAGODI KOMBE PROJECT
About Magodi Kombe
Magodi Kombe is one of many rural communities in Tanga, located in Northern Tanzania that lack equitable resources and services such as limited access to or no education for the vulnerable children in the community. Magod Kombe is home to a Maasai tribe, one of the most prominent tribes in Northern Tanzania, with a population of fewer than 500 people. The Maasai people are semi-nomadic and pastoralists that are known for grazing cattle which is the center of their culture and tradition. This cultural lifestyle positions most of the rural Maasai communities far from basic resources such as clean water, healthcare, and education.
This is how we can collectively support and contribute to the needs of the community.
Classroom Project
Providing education to the community will act as a point of entry to provide other supportive services to strenghten the community. The first initiative we made was to hire two local kindergarten teachers to teach the 80 children in the Magodi community. Currently the classes are conducted in a small mud house that is also used as a church on Sundays. Our primary goal is to build classrooms for Early Childhood Education, also known as pre primary school in Tanzania.
THE work has started and we need your help to complete the project
The first phase that includes constructing the structural foundation of the two classrooms that has been completed. We need your help to complete the second phase which is building up the structure for the classrooms to completion. The third phase will be transforming the interior into an interactive classroom.
Clean Water Project
Access to clean and safe water is a challenge faced by most rural areas in Tanzania. As part of our efforts to improve the lives of the Magodi community, our aim is to build clean water wells. Access to clean and safe water will strengthen other important areas such as nutrition, hygiene and overall health especially for women and young girls.
Solar Power Project
The population of Magodi Kombe currently live without electricity. One of the challenges this brings, since the children started school, is the inability to study in the evening.
A source of light in the village can bring hope and development of social activities.
